@Vholes – Looking at the overall stats, it does seem like as long as the people at the top remain active, there won’t be much competition for them (outside of their bracket) just because the people who might try to crawl up to the top didn’t make the rating chart one or two weeks. That’s certainly an interesting emergent flaw in the system, thanks for pointing it out.

If you end up in position 21 for a week (say 5 points behind #20), your rating for season average purposes that week is 0 (1600+ points behind #20).

This is why, on the average season chart, there are ~400-point jumps after #9, #12, and #16. This reduces competition and makes upsets much less likely (especially toward the end of the season, if any of the top 9 players continue to make top 20 each week.)

I suggest the compilers of season 2 charts record the rankings of the top 40 or 50 players each week and use those to calculate average season ratings.
